A Bedouin once said that if authority is given to people, who are not accepted, and weapons are given into the hands of those who do not use them, and wealth is in the hands of those who do not spend it – then, surely, the affairs of society will be at a loss.

“May Allah have mercy on him who sends me my faults as a present.”

The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read.

Mahatma Gandhi, was not in the habit of wearing a shirt, even during winter or formal meetings. Surprised at this, a little boy asked him,

“Why don’t you wear a kurtha?”

Kurtha is a loose shirt commonly worn in India. Gandhi explained that it was because he was poor and could not afford it. The boy readily agreed to get a kurtha stitched, but Gandhi replied that a single kurtha was not sufficient as he had a large family. He said he needed 400 million kurthas to properly clothe his brothers and sisters.

He was clearly referring to all the poor people of India …

When the Prophet’s influence extended after his conquests and Islam had spread far and wide, the Prophet (saw) began sending to various tribes to call them to Islam. Sometimes he even had to send armies. ‘Adi bin Hatim al-Ta’i was a king and the son of a king. When the Prophet (saw) sent an army to the Tai’ tribe, ‘Adi ran away from the battle and took refuge in Syria. When the Muslim army reached Tai’ they found it easy to defeat them as they had neither a king nor an organised army. The Mus-lims would always treat people kindly in wars and respect their emotions, even during battle. The purpose of the battle was to prevent the plots of ‘Adi’s people against the Muslims and to dis-play to them the Muslims’ strength.

If you want to be a good leader, beware of the following mistakes. These are what we call "The 7 deadly sins" of speaking.

Anas – may Allah be pleased with him – said, “There was a man from amongst the Bedouins whose name was Zahir bin Haram. Whenever he came to Madinah for a need, he brought something for the Prophet (saw) as a gift, like cottage cheese or butter.

Likewise, the Prophet (saw) would prepare some-thing to give to him whenever he wanted to leave, such as dates and so on. The Prophet (saw) used to love him and say: “Zahir is our Bedouin and we are his city-dwellers.” Zahir was not very good looking. One day, Zahir – May Allah be pleased with him – left the desert and came to Allah’s Messenger (saw) but did not find him.

Remember that it is not what happens to us that hurts us… It is our response which hurts us. The incident below from President Abraham Lincoln’s life further shows us how truly great human beings respond to a challenging situation in a positive manner…. Read on… It is inspiring…

On the first day, as President, Abraham Lincoln began to give his inaugural address, just in the middle, one man stood up. He was a rich aristocrat.

Mahatma Gandhi, was not in the habit of wearing a shirt, even during winter or formal meetings. Surprised at this, a little boy asked him,

Why don’t you wear a kurtha?

One young man went to apply for a managerial position in a big company. He passed the initial interview, and now would meet the director for the final interview.

The director discovered from his CV that the youth’s academic achievements were excellent. He asked, “Did you obtain any scholarships in school?”
the youth answered “no”.

” Was it your father who paid for your school fees?”

 Ibn Muflih writes:

“And Moses said: “O my Lord, the people say things about me which are not (i.e. not true)!’ So Allah revealed to him: ‘O Musa, I did not make that (privilege) for Myself, so how can I make it the case for you?’

When you only have bread and yoghurt … use the bread as a spoon.”

Meaning: Instead of complaining about the lack of x, y and z, find alternative solutions to the problem.

 “Umar Ibn Abdul Azeez said about the Ayah:

“Fight in the way of Allaah against thse who fight you and do not trangress the limits. Indeed, Allaah does not love those who trangress”. (2:190). The killing of women and children is included within this, and so are those who are not involved in warfare”.

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
...Forgive them anyway!
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
...Be kind anyway!
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
...Succeed anyway!
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
...Be honest and frank anyway!
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
...Build anyway!
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
...Be happy anyway!
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
...Do good anyway!
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
...Give the world the best you've got anyway!
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

“He always made his own bed, no matter where we traveled. I remember we were in Shanghai, in a very fancy hotel, and the Chinese hospitality requires that the person who cleans your room and provides you with your food, does exactly that. If you do it for yourself, it could even be regarded as an insult.

So in Shanghai I tried to say to him, ‘Please don’t make your own bed, because there’s this custom here.’ And he said, ‘Call them, bring them to me.’

The shrewdest of the Arabs were four, and ‘Amr bin al-‘Aas was deemed one of them due to his wisdom, sharpness and intelligence. When ‘Amr embraced Islam, he was the leader amongst his people, and whenever he met the Prophet (saw), he would always find him very warm and cheerful. Whenever he entered a gathering where the Prophet (saw) was sitting, he would be warmly welcomed.

When the Prophet (saw) would call him, he would use the names that were most beloved to him. By experiencing such excellent treatment, he felt certain that he was the most beloved of all to the Messenger of Allah (saw). One day, he decided to confirm his feelings, so he approached the Prophet (saw) and sat next to him.
